Communicate directly with any UPS using RS 232 serial communications. Many popular operating systems such as Windows NT / 2000 / XP and NetWare already have basic UPS management software built in; all that is needed is a suitably wired cable, and you're talking!

• Stand-alone UPS management software over RS 232

For more sophisticated requirements, specialised management software is available for management of stand-alone UPS using a direct RS232 serial connection via the supplied cable. This provides monitoring and management facilities, including battery status, line characteristics and fault condition, along with automated file saving and system shutdown in the event of mains failure.

• Network UPS management software

In networked environments, powerful client-sever software provides full monitoring and control of multiple locations using SNMP, the industry-standard network management protocol.

the server module communicates directly with the managed UPS using a RS232 serial connection by means of the supplied cable. System data is collected from the UPS by the server module, and made available over the network to any workstations running the client module or any suitable SNMP management software. Starting with the S 700VA on-line Single-phase UPS, all on-Line UPS can be supplied with a SNMP/HTTP adapter. This device is connected to the UPS by RS232 serial communications either internally or by means of the provided cable, and functions independently without the need for a dedicated monitoring workstation. the adapter functions both as a full-featured SNMP agent, and a simple HTTP server, and can be managed in a number of ways:

• Direct serial communications via RS232 using any suitable terminal application (Telnet, Hyperterminal...)

• By any standard-compliant SNMP network management software using GET and SET commands

• From any web browser using the embedded HTPP management interface - simply point your web browser to the IP adress of the adapter
